Rose Delores Gibbs, M.D. Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Dr. Rose Delores Gibbs, the first African American female to graduate from the MUSC College of Medicine (Class of 1973). Dr. Gibbs was a charter member and president of the MUSC Black Alumni Association and has served as secretary, treasurer, and president of the College of Medicine Alumni Association. In 2006, she was awarded the College of Medicine’s Distinguished Alumnus Award to benefit a student with demonstrated financial need.

The selected student will demonstrate both academic merit and financial need. In furtherance of the University’s commitment to improve health outcomes for all South Carolinians and to encourage those who are inspired to serve in rural, economically disadvantaged, or medically underserved communities, particular attention will be given to applicants who are first generation in their family to attend college, from a rural area, and/or with service history in rural areas or medically underserved areas. This scholarship is awarded to an incoming student with continuation until graduation, pending satisfactory academic and professionalism progress.
